Term 2, Week 7

This was not only the final week of term before we would break up for Christmas, but also the final week that we had for finishing our websites.

This week would of had to of been the most stressful week and the week in which the most work was done.

The first thing I did in these week's lessons was add text to all the pages that I hadn't worked on so far. I then asked Mr Hill to help me insert a Nifty player into my music page. The sound files that I put in the player were ones which feature Shanice singing. I then wrote the names of the songs underneath each of the players.

After inserting the music player, I then put information into all of the pages that hadn't had information put in inside them yet.

In the contact page I put in too pictures, one of a myspace logo as well as one of the you tube logo. I then made links with these to Shanice's profiles on the sites.

The website now looked like it was complete. But then later in the week I loaded the site in a web browser and thought that the website would look better if the background was black instead of white. I then changed the background from white to black.

The website was now complete.

That's it

Term 2, Week 6

As the template was complete by now, I could now focus on getting the content into the pages. Most of this week's lessons though were spent uploading photos of Shanice (my client) into Dreamweaver and then putting them into the pages of the website.I put 2 photos of Shanice on the template above the menu buttons and then wrote her name in between them.I think this worked well. I then worked on the gallery page of the website and as some of the pictures weren't the right size for the page, I had to edit them on Photoshop first.

after this lesson I will only have 1 more week, (2 lessons)to complete the website. The website though is now starting to look like a finsihed website.

Term 2, Week 5

Even though we are now 5 weeks into this term, before this point I still hadn't managed to find a client to make a website for. At the weekend though, I got in contact in Shanice who is a music strand student in year 12 at BRIT. I asked her if it would be OK if I made the website about her and she said that it would be fine and that she looked forward to seeing the completed website when it had been finished.

As I didn't have a client until this week, this sort of meant that I was a step behind most of the other students in the class. This meant that I had to get a lot of work done for the website this week.

During the lessons this week I started work on the template of website which all the pages in the website would eventually adopt. I used the website Cool Text (http://cooltext.com/) to make the buttons for the different pages of the website.

By the end of the 2 lessons this week, the template was finished and I had also started to put some information into the "About" section.

That is all for now, more to follow

Term 2, Week 4

After the 2 web-design lessons of the previous week I sort of made a promise to myself that by this week I would have a client and would therefore be able to get on and start the website. This wasn't the case though and because of that I couldn't start on my website this week.

So this week again was spent looking at past website examples.

I do hope I have a client by this time next week!

Term 2, Week 3

We are now almost half way through the unit, but I still don't have a client. As this was the case, during the lessons this week I looked over websites from over the past years again to give myself some ideas about what I could do.

Mr Hill gave me some advice this lesson, he said that if I couldn't find a client from outside the BRIT School then I could possibly ask one of the teachers within the school if they wanted a website for educational purposes. This sounded like a good idea and it's an idea which I considered.

I went away from today's lesson (Wednesday 17th) thinking about who I could ask to be my client.

Term 2, Week 1

We have now stop working on our protols and devices work and have started to look at a number of different tools and websites that we may find useful when it comes to making our own websites.

Mr Hill showed us a web page which is on the new media website which is there to help us with this course (Digital Communication). The particular web page conatained a number of pages which gave us some ideas of what we may want in our own websites which we are making for clients.

Term 1, Week 7

In our lessons in week 7 we were introduced to another service that is offered by Google. This service let's you make your own, easy to use and free website (with a Google domain name). The service is appropriately named: Google Sites.

To start with I chose the name for my google sites website. I chose britschoolcroydon. This name was available, so this is what I used. My full address for my Google site is: http://sites.google.com/site/thebritschoolcroydon/

I then worked my way through some of the many features of Google sites and then made my first page for my website. The first page was a homepage which I copied and pasted information onto from the official BRIT School site. I then made a curriculum page and then started to make a page for each of the strands.

Term 1, Week 6

In Week 6 we were given an introduction to Adobe Dreamweaver. We did this because we will have to use Dreamweaver to make a website for a client that we will choose later on in the course. The first thing we did was copy a folder called Brit Pics (which was in the xdrive) into our own U drives. We then used the pictures in the folder and put these in our example template.

Term 1, Week 4

In our first website design lesson of this week we started to write an assignment titled: 'Protocols and Devices'. Mr Hill then talked to us about plagiarism and that it is really important that if you do want to use someone else's work, then we should put it in inverted commas and in italics and underneath write where it has come from (website, person etc). We we do the same thing if we used a picture from the internet.

In the second lesson we learnt about the history of the internet and learnt that the internet and the world wide web are two completely different things. We learnt that Tim Berners Lee was the person who came up with the original idea of the world wide web and that it's to him that the world wide web is credited to.

In the second lesson Mr Hill also talked to us about web browsers and that when internet explorer was first created it was included in the Microsoft windows operating system. Other companies who made internet browsers didn't like this, so internet was then made seperate form the operating system and other alternatives were allowed.

That's all for now. More to follow!

Term 1, Week 3

This is a video that Mr Hill took of us when we were entering the classroom for Wednesday morning's lesson. The reason why it was taken was so we could all practice putting a video into our blog. Here it is!

Term 1, Week 2

I write this now at the end of our second website design lesson. So far we have set up our blog sites and have explored all the different features and settings. I experimented with the design of my blog and changed the background from a plain white background to a dark background. I also changed the font to orange from black.
